Kitchen Spam - saturday morning

[The breakfast menu just got kid friendly-- and the kitchen just got a lot better secured. No little hands in sharp places, or high places, or hot places; Riddick has it locked down. He's also keeping a serious eye on the mess hall, dividing his attention between waffles and doing walkarounds.

Unfortunately, he's not quite himself. He found this pair of smoked eyeglasses... and he's been trying not to talk ever since he put them on. Fucking floods, am I right.]

[It's strange. Ben knows he's supposed to be here, that he was assigned kitchen duty for some reason, but he doesn't know the first thing about how to go about it. Still, he has to do what he's told, and he'll just have to hope it will make more sense when he gets there.

So have a tall, gangly pre-teen with shortshorn blonde hair, wearing a familiar set of black military BDU pants and a grey t-shirt, with a barcode on the back of his neck, standing outside the kitchen doors with a white stone in his palm, looking somewhat anxious and trying not to show it.]

[On hearing the door unlock, Riddick opens it-- and recognizes the barcode and the faintly feline scent more than he does the features.]

Ben, how good to see you. Do you mean to cook with us today?

[Ben really can't help the way that the moment the door open and he spots someone on the other side, he falls back to a swift, correct attention.

He goes stiff when the man uses his name, for just a moment, then swallows subtly.]

If I am meant to, sir.

[Riddick may travel to the kitchen, but someone's already in there baking pies, and alarmingly looking like an expert at it. With his sleeves pushed up to his elbows and his face and hands covered in flour, Young Ned looked up with a start as the kitchen door cracked open]

[Riddick stops, instantly cautious. But... baking.]

[At least Digby is familiar, and gives a friendly bark. Ned on the other hand goes pale white in the horror of being caught in the act. He immediately frees his hands from the flour, jumps down from the chair and begins to back away from his workstation.

A quiet one, Ned is.]

[Under the modifying influence of the glasses, Riddick's smile is less a small smirk and more an actual smile than usual.]

Hmm, we'll need nitrile gloves in smaller sizes. And what are you making today?

[Young Ned's eyes flick nervously from Riddick to the workstation and back. Was he in trouble or not?]

[His subsequent anxious look asks the questions he doesn't have the voice to ask aloud; Why is he being questioned?]

Good morning. My name is Riddick; I'm a cook and occasional baker. I'll be making breakfast once I get some protective gear on.

[Not his usual procedure at all, but he's not sure how to broach the 'don't touch me' conversation yet.]

[Abigail notices the more-intense-than-usual focus, and although she hasn't really talked to Riddick before, she figures this is as good a time as any. After all, his options for conversation have kind of been whittled down lately.]

Your job just got a lot more complicated, huh. [She sees that baby-proofing.]

Oh, extremely. And more than one would think.

[Considering Riddick's usual sprawling tendency to drawl and be deliberately careless with his diction, this clipped speech says volumes. Volumes of 'the fucking barge,' mostly.]

Anybody stick a fork in a toaster yet?

[She raises her eyebrows.]

I used to babysit. Kids are stupid.

I never did 'baby-sit', but I do not mind children.

And nobody has injured themselves badly, I have seen to that.

How long is this supposed to last, though? A couple days, right? You can't kid-proof everything forever.

[But. Red wants to explore! She's used to working in the kitchen with her Granny, and she just wants to get in there and poke at all the food and make herself some eggs.

Is he really going to stop a creature this cute? (The correct answer should probably be yes.)]

No, little lady, you shall have to stay outside. [Riddick moves to thwart any attempt to get in.]

I do the cooking for breakfast, but I will gladly give you anything you like. Eggs? Sandwiches? Pancakes? Sausage?

[It's not hard to find the cafeteria. It's the same level he started on, so he explored that one first.

He sits at at table for awhile but no one seems to be bringing him food, much to his frustration. So he gets in line. It's not like it's hard to figure out how the line works.

Funnily enough, the early-morning bags under Arthas' eyes and the sour expression makes him look a lot more like his older self. No one could mistake the thin blond fluff on his chin for the stubble that's usually there, though.]

Two of everything. Don't I know you?
