Kitchen Spam - saturday morning

[The breakfast menu just got kid friendly-- and the kitchen just got a lot better secured. No little hands in sharp places, or high places, or hot places; Riddick has it locked down. He's also keeping a serious eye on the mess hall, dividing his attention between waffles and doing walkarounds.

Unfortunately, he's not quite himself. He found this pair of smoked eyeglasses... and he's been trying not to talk ever since he put them on. Fucking floods, am I right.]

I offered you my room. {Riddick dishes out 'two of everything' without complaint-- because feeding people is soothing.]

[Omg food. There's a piece of bacon stuffed into his cheek before he even bothers to move down the line, and he talks around it.]

Right. I have some questions for you when you're done with your job for the day.

That will be two or three hours yet-- shall I contact you when I am finished?

Uh, sure. I'll probably be in the library.

I will find you directly.

[And he does, heading out to the library as soon as the kitchen is cleaned and ready for lunch shift, hoping Arthas hasn't gotten himself into shit.]

[Arthas has been waiting near the doorway with an open tome that he hasn't even glanced at, and shoots out of his chair when he spots Riddick.]

I went through the glass book, like I said I would.

Then you know that the recent events have cursed me. [He taps his smoked glasses.] And that my voice is not my own. But also that we are not enemies.

Cursed?

[He has his communicator with him, tucked into the book. Curses are bad shit, people die.]

I mean no, we're not enemies. Are you alright?

Please do not alarm yourself; it's a very mild curse. Only my voice, and once you are your proper age I will have full command of my vocabulary back.

[There's a pause as he tries to swear and fails, and looks a little irritated.]

What sort of questions do you have?

When I'm an adult - I mean, you know me, I guess. Why am I such an asshole? I'm - he's exactly the kind of person I don't want to grow up to be.

You made difficult decisions. Some of them were wrong. You made bargains, and some of them were very foolish.

But you were-- recovering. Slowly, you were becoming more noble and kind.

[Slowly. Real, real slowly.]

Difficult decisions are a part of life.

[There's a little more vehemence behind that than a teenager should normally possess. He's frustrated. How could he let himself slip like that in the future and be cruel? He's not allowed to slip, he has responsibilities. His life does not belong to him alone, it belongs to the service of his people. Nothing could make him forget that.]

You don't have to tolerate ...that. Him. His selfishness. If he can't even control himself to act properly...

[Riddick smiles a little bitterly.]

I was never a model of behavior myself. I suppose that is why I found a kinship with him.

I have seen something in him- you, I think. I would rather he find his way back to it than to leave him to his selfishness. I do not want to abandon him.

I can't trust you when you say things like that!

[He wants to bang his hand on a table for emphasis but he settles for gripping the edge of it, quietly. He will not lose control, not like the violent, careless man he apparently grows up to be.

Arthas takes a deep breath.]

A king can't behave like that. Indulging it only lets more people get hurt.

I know. But what is done is done-- there will be a chance to make right if he remembers what you know.

What would you do, in my place?

When is he coming back? Can I talk to him?

No. When he returns, so will you. But he may remember what you want to tell.
