Testing out a new option to save time. Specifically right now we need a warden supe for lunch shift, until Ben comes home. If you're not used to working on a line or feeding a lot of people, we won't drop you into combat with no training. Marsh and I will help you out.

Oh. Not related to the kitchen-- I smelled a still running last month. Whoever it is, I want to pick your brain about fermentation.

[He lifts a bottle of oil into the feed; last christmas, he gave her a massage, because sometimes it seems like she metabolizes stress the same way Arthas eats death. And the feeding's been good on that score lately.]

And hey, if it doesn't work, mice love making more mice, right? He could breed them in his cabin...

Very much an option, but I want to turn every stone. Packet of yeast is easier to put in a pocket than a cage full of mice.

I have my way? We'll raise livestock, he'll be able to slaughter. But that's the future. And I like choices.

So. Gonna see how many death calories he can get out of micro-organisms dying en masse.

Hey, if yogurt and stuff counts, how about like, picking his own vegetables or something? That's technically killing, right? Has he ever tried this stuff himself?

It has to be the death of a whole organism. Because magic, apparently. [He looks dubious] He doesn't get anything from, like, taking an arm if the person lives.

I don't know how much he's experimented. How much he's going to experiment in the next couple months is 'a lot', tho. Either that or I'm gonna be sleeping on the couch for a while.

I'll put root vegetables on my to-do list. Got a lot of variables to test-- type of life, lifespan, complexity of life, biomass at time of death, energetic potential at time of death...
