Hi, kids. It's Richard B. Riddick; you may recognize me as that guy from the kitchen at breakfast.

Friendly reminder that there's nearly a hundred of us, and the functional kitchen staff currently stands at seven plus one on inventory. David Cain was a kitchen worker, Lua Klein was the dinner manager, and our only inmate left on lunch duty is currently about this big. [He holds his hands apart to indicate the Creed-terrier.] And one of the seven? Probation for a week because kitchen tools are not a weapon unless the alternative is death.

We need more hands. We always need more hands, we really need more hands. We always do. One warden, at least one more inmate.

Which brings me to another thing.

Due to the unstable tendencies of the barge and the real stable tendency of most of us to have to eat, I'm requesting anyone with cooking prep experience think about putting themselves on call in case of flood, death toll, or dog. A few more short term hands means a few less posts like this.

How do you feel about Dinner Shift? And managing Victor Creed, when he gets bipedal again.

Dinner is fine.

[Honored, more like. Settled. Useful. But he's not going to make a fuss about it.]

[Riddick is actually making an effort not to make motions Marsh can't see. It reminds him to be articulate. So he doesn't do the chin nod that would usually punctuate this.]

Figured you could. Wuornos is your first on-call if you ever can't make it for whatever reason. I'll show you around the kitchen tonight, touch anything you've missed, answer any questions?

[Marsh, on the other hand, does not. It comes of conversations with Sazed - he's used to being seen even when he can't see a face with the voice.]

[She's someone he would trust to verify colors for him, if necessary.]

[Such a mass of disapproval in his voice.] Currently you got Wells and Coleman. [H.G. and Esther to people who don't live in a world of last names.] When Victor comes back we'll have to get together and shake down the roster to make sure he's not with anyone breakable, though.
