Look, I don't wanna alarm anyone, but we got some real unsavory characters on the network all of a sudden.

[Riddick toggles over to another feed, where someone is calling in from outside. A middle aged man, with gray threading through his hair, yellow eyes, and a face like he makes a professional career out of dismantling brick walls with it.]

Hello, all you mothers' sons! I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me.

[The stranger grins, which is even uglier than him not grinning, but it's a friendly kind of ugly-- some barge veterans will recognize Brachi Stildyne, though a few years older than last seen.]

[And he does go to work, not expecting any voices on the network he much wants to hear-- he's been away for days, still feeling that unnatural fatigue but not so much it's keeping him in bed anymore. He just drifts in as if he wasn't gone, an hour early, looks at what's on the menu and starts work.]

What's the story with Stildyne? It sounds interesting.

[He clucks at Isis affectionately, but he's already got his hands clean and doesn't reach down to pick her up, consequently.]

Old warden. Mostly know him through the Marquis-- they were something resembling an item when I was his inmate. Don't know him that well, but he seems a'ight, so I let him jack my comm.

It always surprises me to learn about all these relationships. Dating here seems like having a wedding in a volcano.

[He chuckles, a little ruefully.] You ain't wrong. But something about bouncing off the same people for months can do it.

Not with those two, though, I think they just liked having sex.

Are you speaking from experience? Someone you've bounced off of, perhaps?

Darling warden, I can't imagine any 'usual' partner for you at all, and my mind can turn in all kinds of ways...

Oh you can't escape that type anywhere, can you? [Given that she's tall for a woman, blonde, and just the other side of undead.]

I hope he knows. [Also she hopes it is the 'he' she's thinking of, because if Riddick has found yet another person who fits that profile...]

We came to an understanding. Sorta. A couple weeks ago.

And is this the sort of 'understanding' I should push you to celebrate?

It's a ... good understanding. We don't need to throw a party.

Well, I'm not qualified to offer any advice except 'don't let him drop you off a building', so...I'll settle for 'good luck'.

...I miss Bruce. [She makes a face after she says it, like the words left something sour behind.] But it's not as simple as going home to him anymore.

Not even after you do a warden stint? [He's prompting, not arguing. He wants to understand.]

Well, that's part of the complication. He wants me home. [That makes it hard for her to want to stay. Hard, but not impossible.]

I had an easier time telling him to take his generosity and go screw himself when I hated myself. I don't- I don't even know when I stopped all the self-loathing. It's still there, don't get me wrong, I think there's not a woman on board who doesn't secretly resent herself for being alive...but it's less, you know?

[He tips his chin up, agreement.]

You wanna go-- you have that want, like a food craving. But it's not part of the future you want, your plan for yourself?

[Her gaze shifts down, in one telling instant of agreement.]

When I picked my own glittering future over him back home, he ended up dead. Now, it would be a hell of a coincidence if the same thing happened in this new Gotham, but you can see why I'm a little twitchy at the thought of risking it.

But what's a girl to do? I never did like the road map that leads to me being barefoot and pregnant in a kitchen, even a very nice kitchen in a mansion.

Is that really what he wants from you? Domesticity, submission with a smile? [Riddick gives her a searching look.] If that's the idea he's got, then you can't afford his bullshit. And he won't compromise. You seen the way he dressed? He can't be talked out of a bad idea.

If he's a little more reasonable, though... it's down to your roadmap. [He purses his lips, thinks a while.] I've seen the conflicting instincts in you. There's still that sweet, social girl somewhere in there, willing to bend a little, willing to put her head down so things stay pleasant, ready to melt if you just give her a little love. ...that mirror barge, that woman, she was starting to give in to that instinct. But I've also seen the hunter. In the forest or... elsewhere. [A quick and dirty little smile; he means her aggressive sexuality as much as her traditional predatory instincts.]

You've been navigating between those two gravitational forces on the barge, not entirely one, not entirely the other. And who you are, where you want to be-- you need to know that. Wayne's secondary. When you know where you're going, you'll know whether you can slot him in anywhere or not, if you can take the risk or not.

What is a girl to do, Selina? What are you gonna do?

[She smiles a little, because yeah. Yeah talking Bruce out of anything is basically like trying to kick down a mountain.] ...I think I want him to want that, to make it easier on me. But the happiest we ever were together was when I was being myself--even when that meant scratching his face open.

I want- [She pauses, thinking very seriously about it, trying to hammer it all into words.] I want to teach the women of Gotham they don't have to wait around for some man with a cape or a gun to save them. If I can do that there, maybe I can even come do that here.
